Director's Statement
When I was 22, I made an anecdotal observation: many of my peers were becoming celibate. This confused me, as sex and promiscuity are often seen as hallmarks of being in your youth. As I began to explore this phenomenon, I discovered that many young people were connecting their celibacy to taking on a spiritual journey. Thus started my in-depth exploration of Atlanta's spiritual community.
My goal was to understand better how traditional ideas of sexual liberation, like casual intercourse and kinkyness, were lost on my generation and how spirituality was helping us navigate our relationships with our bodies and connection.
Now that more research has been done since filming, I know that Gen Z is less likely than previous generations to have sex. This film offers a glimpse into the principles that young people believe are lacking in modern-day sex culture and provides a guiding light for those still trying to understand themselves.
